Clove ESSENTIAL OIL
Eugenia caryophyllataClove essential oil comes from the dried, unopened flower buds of the slender evergreen tree native to the Molucca Islands, an archipelago in eastern Indonesia. Aloha’s clove essential oil comes from the leaf, which holds the same beneficial properties from the bud, but is milder in scent and fragrance as well as safe to use on the skin undiluted.
The name “clove” derives from the Latin word for nail, clavus, inspired by its shape. The spice was well known to the ancients, especially under the Han dynasty, B.C 266 to 220. During that period, it was customary for the court officials to hold the spice in their mouth before addressing the sovereign so that their breath might have an agreeable odor.
